Joining a sorority is an important and life-changing decision. To help make this decision a little easier, here are 10 reasons why joining Alpha Phi will be one of the best decisions you ever make!
Sisterhood: Alpha Phi is a group of diverse, independent women whom together form a supportive, united and strong group of sisters. The bonds between Alpha Phis are unique relationships that could not be found in any other type of group. Sisterhood is a concept which is difficult to put into words, but is an invaluable and unforgettable experience.
Philanthropy: Each year, Alpha Phi at the University of Toronto hosts various fundraising events to support our international foundation, which raises money and awareness for women’s cardiac care. These events include a dessert night, and King of Hearts; a male talent competition, which are supported by members of the Greek community, Alpha Phi alumni, families of sisters and the U of T community.
Social: From sisterhood events and themed socials to yearly formals and Greek Week, Alpha Phi has tons of opportunities to have a great time! The social aspect of Alpha Phi enables sisters to develop strong friendships with each other and members of the community through events organized by Alpha Phi, other Greek organizations and the larger community. Whether its a coffee date with a sister you haven’t seen in a while, a social with a fraternity, or a group trip to the beach, these experiences will make your university experience one to remember.
Networking: With the amount of people you can meet as an Alpha Phi, you will be able to make connections with a wide variety of people with whom you share common interests. These contacts will be invaluable as you enter the world of further education, extracurricular activities and work.
Leadership: Alpha Phi offers many leadership positions within the chapter, as well as within the Greek community. Whether you’re interested in organizing philanthropy events, planning socials, managing finances or getting involved in any aspect of Alpha Phi or the larger community, there’s a leadership position for you.
Scholarship: One of our core values is the pursuit of knowledge. Alpha Phi actively encourages academic achievement through scholarship awards, organized study days, and incentives for high grades. The variety of areas of study represented in our chapter enables us to help each other and learn from each other.
Lifetime Membership: Involvement with Alpha Phi doesn’t stop after you graduate! There are many opportunities to stay involved after graduation, both within the chapter and internationally. Alumni can take on positions such as Chapter Advisor, become members of an alumni chapter, or can become employed by Alpha Phi International.
Personal Development: Alpha Phi is invaluable in the personal development that it provides for each sister. Skills learned through holding leadership positions within the chapter and the Greek community, as well as the knowledge gained from other sisters will give an advantage in future careers and all aspects of life.
House: Alpha Phi at the University of Toronto is proud to own a stunning house located near campus, the Greek community, and Yorkville. All of our regular meetings take place at the house, and there are rooms available for sisters to rent year-round. As we have many members who are commuters, the house provides a “home-away-from-home” and is a place to study, cook, and relax with sisters.
International: With over 150 chapters in Canada and the United States, Alpha Phi is one of the largest women’s fraternities in North America. It is amazing to think that there are thousands of sisters across the continent who share our values and traditions, and some of whom we can meet at annual conferences and events.
